History & Films - Firmly rooted in Holstein

Just like the two old oak trees in front of our Herrenhaus, Gut Immenhof is firmly rooted in Holstein. The history of the estate goes back many centuries: Gut Immenhof - then known as Rodesand, later Rothensande - was first mentioned in a document in 1361.

The history can still be felt today, because thanks to the careful restoration over several years, we were able to preserve the charm of the listed estate while integrating modern amenities and comfort. From the former cowshed to the impressive Herrenhaus, a visit to Hotel Gut Immenhof is a journey through history.

Chronicle - The estate through the ages

A lot has happened since the 14th century: Gut Immenhof has been a supply estate, farm, retirement home, horse breeding centre and much more. Immenhof became particularly famous as the original location for the film series of the same name from the 1950s. Since 2021, we have been welcoming you with our special concept of hotel and modern estate culture.

1361

First documented mention

Knownat the time as "Hof namens Rodesand mit der Gremsmühle", the Gut Immenhof was first mentioned in documents in 1361. According to historical records, the estate served as an outwork until the 18th century, when Fürstbischof Friedrich August von Eutin gave his authorisation and divided the estate into leaseholds. In the 19th century, the estate changed hands nine times. In 1862, the imperial Russian consul Nestor von Schlözer lives on Rothensande for a few years.

1911

Franz Blessmann buys Gut Rothensande

In 1911, the Kiel brickworks owner Franz Blessmann buys Gut Rothensande. The manor house and Torhaus are remodelled in the style of the Schleswig-Holstein Herrenhaus and are given a prestigious appearance. Blessmann also has a large cowshed built.

1913

World record at Gut Rothensande

Ernst Canter and Hans Böhmer, officers of the newly founded Imperial Air Force, make aviation history on 31 March and attempt the first long-distance flight. They flew from Jüterbog via Küstrin and Neubrandenburg to Lübeckin the "Rumpler Taube" (with an 85 hp engine) and touched down on the meadow outside Rothensande after six hours and nine minutes, covering a total distance of 589 kilometres.

1923

1st association festival of the riding club

Between 1920 and 1922, the equestrian festival organised by the Malente-Eutin equestrian club at Gut Rothensande attracted around 15,000 visitors. In July, the first equestrian club association festival for eastern Holstein was held on the meadow in front of the estate.

1955

Film history is being written at Gut Rothensande

Gut Rothensande becomes the location for the legendary Immenhof films. "Die Mädels vom Immenhof" is released in cinemas in 1955 and awakens the longing for a life on the pony farm. This is followed by "Hochzeit auf Immenhof" (1956) and "Ferien auf Immenhof" (1957).

1957

Coffee wholesaler Arthur Nörenberg becomes new owner

Arthur Nörenberg ushers in a new era at Rothensande: he extensively renovates the farm and establishes a successful horse breeding programme. The most famous product of his breeding centre is the Trakehner "Ultimo", one of the outstanding dressage horses of the 1970s. Peace returns to Rothensande. The estate is no longer open to the public in the following decades.

2010

Franz-Josef Stolle acquires the estate

After the forced sale, the buyer, Franz-Josef Stolle, officially renames the farm Gut Immenhof. A large summer festival is held for two days with numerous exhibitions, riding demonstrations and sales stands.

2012

Gut Immenhof GmbH & Co. KG acquires the estate

A painstaking and meticulous restoration begins: the twelve listed buildings are given new foundations, rebuilt and modernised. The Herrenhaus is exposed and sealed, while the stones and joints painted white in the 1960s are sanded down to restore the original colours.

2018

The remodelling of the plant is progressing

The extensive construction work continues. Finally, the tower of the Torhaus, which was removed during the renovation work, can be reinstalled and the restored tower bell also finds its way back. A special moment !

2021

Hotel Gut Immenhof opens

After nine years of renovation, restoration and redesign, the Gut Immenhof Hotel will open on 1 October 2021. 50 rooms and suites, six holiday flats, two restaurants and a first-class riding facility will welcome guests to the estate on the banks of the Kellersees.

A new chapter begins for Gut Immenhof!
